A postmortem examination has revealed that Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student Anne Odhiambo died from suffocation and multiple internal injuries.
The autopsy was conducted at the Nairobi Funeral Home on Friday, July 10, after the student was found dead inside her hostel room at the KMTC Nairobi Campus.
The examination established that her body had black marks around the tongue, which pointed to a lack of oxygen before her death.
In addition, the findings revealed other injuries, including bite marks around her abdomen and blood traces from the nose.
Samples from the body were collected for toxicology tests as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continue.
Odhiambo, who was pursuing a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine, was found lying on the floor of her Kenyatta Hostel room on July 7 at around 11pm.
Reports indicate that police launched investigations after the discovery of the student’s body on campus.
Her relatives who attended the postmortem called for swift investigations, demanding that authorities identify the perpetrators.

The incident followed reports of an altercation involving Odhiambo and other students over a missing item of clothing before her death.
Several students have reportedly been questioned as police continue gathering information on the events leading to the incident.
KMTC confirmed Odhiambo’s death in a statement seen by this publication, saying it was working with security agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
“The incident has been reported to the relevant security agencies, and investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding her death are ongoing. The College Management is working closely with the relevant authorities as the investigations continue,” the statement read.
Odhiambo’s death came days after another KMTC student died after being thrown out of a moving matatu along the Thika superhighway.
