TSC removes several teachers from register after disciplinary process
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has struck off seven teachers from the official Register of Teachers, following a disciplinary process that ran through the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 periods.
The dismissal was made public through a gazette notice dated July 10, issued under the Teachers Service Commission Act, Cap. Section 212 of the Laws of Kenya, which provides the legal framework for the registration, employment, remuneration, and discipline of teachers.
According to the notice, all seven teachers were removed from the register on February 25, 2026, after undergoing the Commission’s disciplinary process. The gazette, however, did not disclose the specific offences or grounds that led to the disciplinary action.
“IN EXERCISE of powers conferred by section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act Cap. 212 of the Laws of Kenya, the Commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified in the schedule below have been removed from the Register of Teachers pursuant to the provision of section 30 (2) of the Act,” stated the notice in part.
All seven teachers were formally removed from the Register of Teachers on February 25, 2026, marking the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings conducted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The Commission said the deregistrations were effected under Section 30 of the Teachers Service Commission Act, which empowers it to remove teachers from the register following due disciplinary process.
Under Sections 30(4) and (5) of the Act, any teacher whose name is removed from the register immediately ceases to be recognized as a teacher under Kenyan law from the date of deregistration.
The law further provides that such a teacher cannot be reinstated unless the Commission expressly directs otherwise. “Where the name of any teacher is removed from the register under this Act, such name shall not be reinstated except by direction of the Commission,” the Act states.

As a result, the seven affected individuals are legally barred from teaching in any public or private learning institution unless they are formally reinstated by the Commission.
TSC also cited Section 23(2) of the Act, reminding the public that no person is permitted to engage in the teaching service unless they are registered as a teacher.
The Commission further used the gazette notice to caution schools, administrators and other education institutions against employing or allowing unregistered individuals to teach.
Under Regulation 18(1)(c) and (d) of the Code of Regulations for Teachers, read together with Section 45 of the TSC Act, it is an offense for an unregistered person to teach or assist in teaching in any school.
Likewise, any institution or individual that knowingly employs or permits an unregistered teacher to teach also commits an offence.
Those found guilty of violating these provisions risk a fine of not less than Ksh100,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, the Commission warned.
