The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has alleged that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was in communication with two people implicated in the murder of mental health doctor Victoria Mutiso, including one of the main suspects.
Addressing the press on Friday, August 7, DCI Director Mohamed Amin claimed investigators had established communication between Gachagua and one of the key suspects.
“Unfortunately, what clearly came out of this is that Honourable Rigathi Gachagua was in communication with one of the main suspects who was feeding him with this information,” Amin said.
The DCI boss further added that investigators also found evidence suggesting the former DP had been in contact with the motorcycle rider who ferried the murder suspects.
“We were able to establish that apparently he also appears to have been in communication with the boda boda rider,” the DCI Director disclosed.
“If really Rigathi Gachagua meant well for these investigations, because we are not trying to deal with politics, then he should have shared the information with investigators,” Amin added.

However, in a rejoinder, Gachagua, speaking during the opening of Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) in Kiambu, denied being in contact with any of the suspects.
“Where do I get to interact with the murder suspects while I was at my home in Wamunyoro?” Gachagua pushed back, insisting his intelligence comes from within the force and not those involved in the murder.
Amin’s remarks came as the DCI released a detailed update on the investigations into Mutiso’s fatal shooting, saying detectives had made significant progress through forensic and intelligence-led operations.
According to Amin, detectives have identified the alleged organiser of the murder plot, the rider who ferried the gunman, and several other individuals believed to have played different roles in planning and executing the attack.
The DCI also claimed that investigations uncovered the involvement of rogue police officers, alleging that some helped coordinate the operation while another allegedly supplied the firearm used in the shooting.
Among the officers involved was a police constable attached to Karinde Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station who has since been arrested after investigators identified him as the officer who allegedly fired the fatal shots.
He also revealed that Mutiso had survived an earlier attempted attack on July 7 after two men on a motorcycle allegedly pointed a gun at her along Ngong Road near Junction Mall before she escaped unharmed.
Amin said detectives are still pursuing additional leads and investigating whether some of those linked to the murder may also have connections to another high-profile shooting that occurred in 2025.
Dr Mutiso was shot dead on the morning of Wednesday, July 29, at around 9 am at the junction of Mbagathi Link Road and Mawenzi Road in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.
