Ruto was the broker Museveni blamed for dropping Kenya-Uganda oil deal; Gachagua

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Leader Rigathi Gachagua has sensationally claimed that President William Ruto was the broker that President Yoweri Museveni blamed for dropping the Kenya-Uganda oil deal. 

Speaking in the USA on Friday, September 18, Gachagua claimed that Ruto was the middleman in the government-to-government fuel importation deal, which also extended the supply of fuel to Uganda.

He lauded Museveni for being bold enough to walk out of the deal and save Ugandan taxpayers’ money. 

“I am happy because today I have seen President Museveni crying that he was buying petroleum through Kenyan brokers. It is only that he did not want to say, but we will do it on his behalf; the broker is William Ruto. 

“Ruto said it is G-to-G, but it is G-to-R. I salute President Museveni because the Ugandans have decided to say no to the theft of resources for the people of Uganda,” Gachagua stated.

The former Deputy President promised to do away with the G-to-G arrangement when the new government takes over from Ruto after the 2027 General Election.

He promised to revert fuel importation to the private sector. He claimed fuel prices in the country were high because the President controlled the fuel sector.

Gachagua explained that if Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) handled the trade, then Kenyans would get relief at the pump.

“We will open up the sale of oil products to the private sector where there is competition and value for money. If the various OMCs compete, Kenyans will be the biggest beneficiary, because the companies will lower their profit margins,” he explained.

Earlier, Museveni explained he cancelled the Kenya-Uganda fuel importation deal after a Kenyan Senator alerted him of middlemen involved in the trade.

“The Republic of Uganda was buying petroleum products through middlemen in Kenya. Can you imagine that? And the person who woke me up first was a senator from Kenya,” he stated.
