Millicent Omanga responds after reports of govt appointment

Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has publicly dismissed reports linking her to a new state appointment made by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. 

The clarification followed the publication of a Gazette Notice dated August 26, 2026, which listed members appointed to the Board of Visitors of the Shikusa Borstal Institution under Section 20 (1) of the Borstal Institutions Act.

Among the ten individuals listed in the official notice was a “Millicent Kerubo Omanga,” slated to serve a three-year term effective from August 14. 

The inclusion of the name quickly sparked public chatter, with circulating reports assuming the former lawmaker had been handed a new government role.

Addressing the reports circulating online on Saturday, September 19, Omanga distanced herself from the publication, confirming that the individual cited in the official gazette notice is not her.

“My full name is Millicent Nyaboke Omanga… and to the gossipers: sorry,” Omanga wrote in a short post on social media.

The former legislator has previously been linked to other state roles, having served under the Ministry of Interior as a Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) from March to July 2023, when the High Court declared all CAS appointments unconstitutional.

In October 2024, President William Ruto named Omanga to the newly established Nairobi Rivers Commission, an offer she publicly declined while promising to support the city’s restoration efforts in a private capacity.

In January 2025, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of Kenya Shipyards Limited, a role that was later revoked by the government in April 2026.

Omanga’s public service career began in 2013 when she was appointed as a director at the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), a role she held until 2017.

Although she does not currently hold elective office, she indicated earlier this year that she intends to vie for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Elections.

She contested the Nairobi Woman Representative seat during the 2017 general election on a Jubilee Party ticket, and following her defeat, she was nominated to the Senate, serving from 2017 to 2022.

Having later aligned herself with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), she shifted her political affiliation earlier this year by defecting to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
