I have launched 17 Matatus in total - George Ruto
President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, has opened up about his growing investment in the matatu industry, revealing that his passion for nganyas dates back to his high school days.
George spoke after unveiling six new matatus under his 98 Sacco on Saturday, September 19, 2026, taking his total number of launched vehicles to 17.
But for George, the investment is about more than flashy nganyas and business.
He says creating employment for young people is one of the key reasons behind his venture.
“There are countless reasons. Number one, we are providing job opportunities to young people,” he said.
Asked why he continues to build opportunities despite coming from a prominent family, George gave a pointed response:“Because if I don’t do it, then who will?”

George Ruto said his interest in the matatu industry began long before he became an investor.
“The matatu sector has been a passion in my life for a very long time since I was in high school,” he said.
That passion, he explained, eventually became a business opportunity when he got the chance to invest in the sector.
“When I got the opportunity to invest, to become an investor and, you know, to do what I’m doing now, I couldn’t say no to that. So I guess that’s why I’m here,” he said.
During the commissioning of the new vehicles, two pastors were invited to pray over and bless the fleet before the nganyas hit the road.

Asked what had humbled him most about his journey, George simply answered: “God.”
He added: “We are born in Christian families. We believe in God. He really opened doors for us.”
George also highlighted the pace of his expansion in the matatu business.
According to him, he launched one vehicle in 2025 and 16 more in 2026, bringing the total to 17.
“Last year we launched one. This year we launched 16,” he said.
President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, is set to expand his 98 Sacco fleet with six new nganyas, with a dramatic preview video already generating buzz online.
The footage, shared by popular matatu electrician @jaramba_lighting, shows the six vehicles lit up in colourful displays inside a go-down where the matatus were being upgraded.
The teaser came with a simple caption: “98 logistics.”
George launched 98 Sacco in June 2026 as the home of his growing Raptor Family fleet, which includes units such as Raptor, Money Fest, Matrix, Mood, Baba Yaga and Ambush.
The fleet operates on Nairobi routes, including Embakasi and Ongata Rongai.
