Gideon Moi’s land document goes missing
Former Senator of Baringo County Gideon Moi has reported missing land documentation linked to a property registered in his name in Kitale
Former Senator of Baringo County Gideon Moi has reported missing land documentation linked to a property registered in his name in Kitale Municipality.
According to the notice, the former senator is the registered proprietor of the property, which is located in Trans Nzoia District, which the Lands Registry said the document had been lost.
“Whereas Gideon Towet Moi, of P.O. Box 51990, Nairobi in the Republic of Kenya, is registered as proprietor of all that piece of land known as L.R. No. 2116/1054, situate in the city of Kitale Municipality in Trans Nzoia District, by virtue of a grant, registered as I.R. 53898/1,” stated the notice in part.
The Registrar of Titles stated that sufficient evidence had been presented to demonstrate that the original grant could no longer be accounted for.
The Lands Registry has consequently given members of the public 60 days to raise any objections to the proposed replacement, after which no objections will be received.
The Registrar stated that a provisional certificate would be issued 60 days after the date of publication, provided no objection is received during that period.

The 60-day period, therefore, runs from October 2, when the Gazette Notice was published.
“And whereas sufficient evidence has been adduced to show that the said grant has been lost, notice is given that after the expiration of sixty (60) days from the date hereof, I shall issue a provisional certificate provided that no objection has been received within that period,” added the notice.
This move by the Moi Family comes months after they initiated the process of recovering the Trans-Nzoia parcels of land, at the beginning of August.
In total, four related notices concerning the same properties were published on the same day, all pointing to the same issue of missing paperwork.
Raymond Kipruto Moi, yet another son of the second President, was the first to initiate the recovery process, as confirmed in a gazette notice dated July 31, confirming the loss of his property documents.
The notices were issued under the Land Registration Act, and officials stated sufficient evidence was provided to show that the certificates were genuinely missing.
It is also worth noting that the government regularly publishes such notices whenever landowners report missing title deeds, treated as a standard, routine process, and it does not suggest any wrongdoing or dispute over ownership of the land.
