Farouk Kibet moves to save Wetang'ula from falling on podium
A tense moment unfolded at St Peter’s Mungore ACK Church in Bumula Constituency, Bungoma County, on Sunday, October 4, when National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula stumbled and fell to the ground during a church service.
Wetang’ula was in the company of senior political figures and leaders, including President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet.
The incident occurred after Farouk invited Wetang’ula to address an outdoor gathering at the service.
As the Speaker moved towards the stage, he appeared to miss a step and lost his footing, dropping to the ground in full view of the assembled congregation and dignitaries.
Farouk, who was calling the gathering to order, reacted immediately, grabbing one of Wetang’ula’s hands before the fall could become worse.
Two other men rushed in to assist, and together with Kibet, they helped the Speaker back onto his feet.
Once upright, Wetang’ula held his right upper arm, suggesting some discomfort from the fall.

He then composed himself, dusting off his clothing and straightening his glasses before joining Farouk and other leaders on stage, where the group proceeded to dance together to music playing at the event.
The church service brought together a notable assembly of Western Kenya political leaders.
Among those in attendance were Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, Senator David Wakoli, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, and other local officials, in addition to Kibet and Wetang’ula.
The swift intervention by Farouk prevented what could have been a more serious fall for the Speaker, and Wetang’ula’s composure in continuing to participate in the programme drew attention to the moment.
