Child dies after being sodomized by his stepfather in Trans Nzoia

Detectives from Kiminini in Trans Nzoia County have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a minor who subsequently died.

In a statement on Friday, October 9, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the suspect as Erick Wamalwa Namukana, alias Funje, who is the child’s stepfather. 

He had reportedly gone into hiding following the incident, prompting detectives to launch a manhunt.

“The suspect, Erick Wamalwa Namukana alias Funje, who happens to be the child’s stepfather, had gone into hiding after the incident, triggering a manhunt by detectives determined to trail him down and bring him to justice,” the statement read.

According to preliminary investigations, the minor was allegedly sexually assaulted between March 2 and 3, 2026, before being taken to a local health facility for treatment.

“Preliminary investigations have since established that the minor was allegedly sexually assaulted between March 2 and 3, 2026, before being rushed to Bikeke Health Centre for treatment,” the statement added.

According to the DCI, the child was subsequently referred to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital, where the minor was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the suspect allegedly fled to an unknown destination, forcing detectives to intensify investigations and pursue leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

The DCI said sustained investigations eventually led officers to the suspect’s hideout in Kiminini Sub-County.

“Sustained efforts finally paid off when detectives arrested the suspect in the Shimo la Tewa area of Milimani, Kiminini Sub-County,” the statement further read.

The suspect was escorted to the DCI Kiminini offices, where investigators were processing him as they prepared to arraign him at Kitale Law Courts.
