ODM issues health update on Oburu Oginga
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Catherine Omanyo has dismissed reports suggesting that party leader Oburu Oginga’s health is deteriorating, assuring Kenyans that he is recovering well after being unwell.
Speaking in a video shared on her X account from an interview with a local station on Monday, October 12, 2026, Omanyo said the veteran politician was recuperating and criticised reports she described as yellow journalism.
“He was unwell, yes, but he’s recuperating well. He’s okay,” Omanyo said.
She added that Oburu’s age required him to take time to rest and follow medical advice, noting that his absence from public events should not be interpreted as a sign of deteriorating health.
“It’s not a must you see the party leader every day on the screen, but he’s so alive and kicking,” she said.
Her remarks come amid growing public concern about the health of the ODM leader, whose recent absence from key political and public engagements has fuelled speculation on social media.
Omanyo expressed concern over reports about Oburu’s condition, saying the circulation of unverified information was distressing to the party and those close to the veteran politician.
“Ignore the yellow journalism we are seeing everywhere, trying to kill him, and yet he’s so alive and kicking,” she said.
