I campaigned for Kalonzo in 1992 in Mwingi - President Ruto
President William Ruto has revealed he campaigned for Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka when he was vying for the Mwingi North Parliamentary seat under KANU in the 1992 General Election.
Speaking in Kitui County on Monday, October 26, Ruto said he was a member of the Youth for KANU ’92 (YK92) wing at the time.
“In 1992, I came here to Mwingi to campaign for Kalonzo. I was in YK92 at the time, and I came to campaign for him under the KANU party. He won,” Ruto said.
The Head of State urged Kalonzo to return the favor in the 2027 General Election by supporting his re-election.
“Now tell him to remember me next year. Let him return the favour,” the President said.
President Ruto also mentioned that his deputy Kithure Kindiki was part of Kalonzo’s presidential team in 2007.
He asked the wiper leader to consider the past support from both him and Kindiki ahead of next year’s election.

“I heard him saying the other day that even my Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki, also supported him when he was seeking the presidency. Kindiki was on his team in 2007. So shouldn’t he return the favor to William Ruto and Kindiki, or what?” Ruto posed.
Further, President Ruto claimed that some of Kalonzo’s opposition allies were planning to mistreat him.
He alleged that they were preparing to subject the former Vice President to another interview, similar to the one he faced ahead of the 2022 election.
“I told Kalonzo that these people would mistreat you. Didn’t they take him for an interview in 2022? I am telling my brother Stephen that the same people have planned another interview for him. The same people who interviewed him before have another one waiting for him,” Ruto claimed.
