Uhuru’s office warns over fake social media accounts impersonating former first family

The Office of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned Kenyans against fake social media accounts purporting to represent him, former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and their children.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the Office of the 4th President clarified that it operates only two official social media accounts, urging members of the public to disregard other pages and profiles claiming to communicate on behalf of the former First Family.

The statement, signed by spokesperson Kanze Dena Mararo, identified the authorised accounts as the office’s Facebook page, Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya, and its X account, Office of the 4th President of Kenya.

Both platforms use the username @4thPresidentKE.

The office provided links to the two accounts to help the public distinguish genuine communications from unauthorised profiles.

“The Office further wishes to clarify that H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, H.E. Margaret Kenyatta and their children do not operate any personal social media accounts,” the statement read.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to exercise caution and disregard any social media accounts, pages or profiles purporting to represent or speak on behalf of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, H.E. Margaret Kenyatta or their children, other than the two official accounts listed above.”

The office urged Kenyans to rely exclusively on the two official platforms for authentic information and communication concerning the former President and his family.

It cautioned the public against relying on any other accounts, pages or profiles claiming to speak for Uhuru, Margaret or their children.

The clarification seeks to establish a clear distinction between the family’s authorised public communication channels and accounts that may use their names, photographs or identities without permission.

The latest warning follows an earlier advisory issued by Uhuru’s office in January 2026 over the circulation of false and misleading social media content attributed to the retired President.

At the time, the office said unauthorised posts did not represent Uhuru’s views or position and urged Kenyans to verify information before sharing it online.
