According to the Kenya Red Cross, the group comprised 174 pupils, eight teachers and five drivers from CITAM Woodley Primary School in Nairobi, who were visiting the Lake Baringo area when the incident occurred.
The Kenya Red Cross said 16 pupils were stung, with five suffering severe reactions that required urgent medical attention.
Witnesses said that several students sustained injuries during the attack as panic spread among the group.
Emergency response teams from the Kenya Red Cross, working alongside county and national government officials, responded to the scene and assisted the affected learners.
Most of the injured pupils were treated and later discharged from a health facility in Marigat Town after receiving medical care.
In an update issued at 9pm, the Kenya Red Cross said all the patients were in stable condition.
Bee swarm incidents are not uncommon around Lake Baringo, one of Kenya’s leading honey-producing regions, with more than 135,000 beehives spread across the county.
The large bee population occasionally results in swarming incidents when wild or managed colonies are disturbed by human activity or changing weather conditions.
Previous attacks have disrupted normal activities in towns surrounding the lake, including Kabarnet, where swarms have forced businesses to close temporarily.

In one notable incident, a massive swarm descended on a motorcycle parked near the town’s main bus terminus, prompting traders to shut their shops until the bees dispersed.
In July 2021, a swarm disrupted the annual Rhino Charge motorsport event in the Sabor area near Marigat after a competing vehicle accidentally struck a wild beehive.
The bees descended on the spectator area, forcing participants and guests to flee.
Among those affected was then Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, who was forced to run for safety alongside hundreds of spectators.
Some spectators jumped into a nearby seasonal river to escape the aggressive bees.
