DP Kindiki reacts as DCP candidate wins Ol Kalou by-election
Kithure Kindiki and several UDA-allied leaders have congratulated Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau who provisional results showed he would win the Ol Kalou by-election.
Kindiki compared the DCP’s win to UDA’s victory in Mbeere North in November 2025, saying the real contest would come at the next year’s General Election.
The Ol Kalou by-election was widely viewed as a political test of strength between President William Ruto and impeached former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
Kindiki drew a parallel between the DCP’s apparent win in Ol Kalou and UDA’s triumph in the Mbeere North by-election in November 2025, suggesting both results as individual contests rather than a definitive verdict on either party’s prospects in the next year’s general election.
He argued that the true measure of political supremacy between the rival camps would only come at the August 2027 vote, with the presidential race at the centre of that contest.
“Mbeere North: 1 Ol Kalou: 1 Final Match 10 Aug’ 2027,” wrote Kindiki on Facebook.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto’s allies lined up congratulatory messages addressed to the DCP candidate.
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who said he was present on the ground in Ol Kalou during the vote, extended congratulations to Kamau while also acknowledging runner-up Muchinah for putting up a competitive campaign.

Sudi sought to reassure the Mt Kenya electorate that remain a valued part of the Ruto administration. “I want to congratulate Hon. Sammy Kamau Waweru for winning the Ol Kalou by-election. Thumbs up also to Samuel Muchinah Nyagah for a well-fought race. I was on the ground, and I respect the decision made by the people of Ol Kalou,” Sudi said.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru also offered congratulations, directing her message at Waweru and urging him to serve the constituency with honour.
She, at the same time, acknowledged Muchina’s spirited campaign.
Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi and Mogotio’s Reuben Kiborek similarly joined in the wave of acknowledgements from within the UDA fold.
The Ol Kalou by-election had drawn intense national attention because it was read by many political observers as a proxy contest between Ruto and his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, whose impeachment by parliament in October 2024 triggered a deep rift between Gachagua’s backyard and the president.
