UoN releases admission letters, joining dates for 2025 KCSE students

The University of Nairobi (UoN) has finally released admission letters for students joining the institution in the 2026/2027 academic year, ending weeks of anxious waiting after several other public universities had already issued their admission documents and joining instructions.

In a notice on Tuesday, the university confirmed that it had processed admission letters for all students admitted through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), with the first semester set to commence on August 24 this year.

“The admission letters are finally out! See instructions on how to access your admission letter on the poster below! Counting down days to when we will welcome you physically on campus!” the university announced.

According to the notice, all admitted students have been sent SMS notifications containing their registration numbers, which they will use to access the university’s Student Management Information System (SMIS) portal.

To download the admission letter, students are required to log into the SMIS portal using their registration number as the username and their KCSE index number as the password.

They will then be required to download the admission letter and joining instructions before completing and uploading the required documents online.

The university also directed students to apply for Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans and government scholarships.

The release comes after weeks of uncertainty among students, many of whom had expressed concern after other universities issued admission letters and joining instructions soon after KUCCPS released placement results.

Kenyatta University appoints Prof. John Okumu as substantive Vice-Chancellor

The delay also coincided with a turbulent period at Kenya’s oldest university, which has spent months grappling with leadership wrangles surrounding the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The impasse was resolved earlier this month after Professor Ayub Njoroge Gitau was officially installed as the University’s ninth substantive Vice-Chancellor during a ceremony held at Taifa Hall on July 17, 2026, ending months of uncertainty that had slowed key administrative processes.

The release of admission letters also comes weeks after the university opened its inter-institution transfer window, allowing students placed in other universities through KUCCPS to apply for transfers to UoN between July 9 and August 9 this year.

With admission letters now released, first-year students are expected to report to the university on August 24 for the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
