Don’t elect thieves or liars in 2027; Head of Public Service Felix Kosgei
Head of Public Service Felix Kosgei on Sunday, September 6, 2026, urged Kenyans to be more careful when choosing leaders in the 2027 General Election, warning against electing people he described as dishonest and untrustworthy.
Kosgei said voters should assess the character and record of candidates before deciding who to support, arguing that poor leadership choices can have consequences for the country.
Speaking on the political choices ahead, Kosgei urged Kenyans to identify leaders who are truthful, responsible and capable of managing public resources.
“Make sure that we choose leaders whom we know are not thieves, who have not stolen anything belonging to anyone, who are not liars, those who tell the truth, and those who take care of people’s property,” Kosgei said.
Kenya’s next General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 10, 2027, in line with the constitutional requirement that the presidential and parliamentary elections be held on the second Tuesday of August every fifth year.
With the election approaching, political parties and potential candidates are already positioning themselves for what is expected to be a closely contested race.
Kosgei said voters should not repeat what he considers mistakes made during previous elections.
“It is very important because sometimes we go for elections and we mess ourselves up by electing wrong people,” he said.

He called on voters to examine their choices carefully before casting their ballots.
The Head of Public Service said Kenyans should consider whether candidates have the qualities required to move the country forward.
“Let us think, think again, and think again so that we can get the right people who can drive this country forward,” Kosgei said.
He further urged voters to choose leaders whose leadership would benefit the wider population rather than individuals seeking power for personal interests.
His remarks add to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 election, with politicians and political formations increasingly seeking to influence how voters assess candidates and political alliances.
Kosgei concluded by urging Kenyans to make deliberate choices when the time comes to vote.
