‘They’re fools calling themselves cousins’ – Ruto hits out at the opposition

President William Ruto has blasted the United Opposition for referring to themselves as ‘cousins’, claiming that the term was a thin veil to hide the fact that they wanted to divide the country based on tribe. 

Speaking in Bomet on Friday, September 11, Ruto warned that the Opposition was more focused on ethnicity and spreading hate among Kenyans.

He added that apart from the ‘cousins’ connotation, utterances by certain politicians in the Opposition were aimed at dividing Kenyans.

“We are implementing a bold, courageous agenda while they have none.

Theirs is about insults, hate, and ethnicity. They speak about cousins, enemies, itungati, betrayers, people from the Mountain and people from the Rift Valley. Those people are very useless,” Ruto stated.

The President reiterated that the Opposition had no agenda and was not as united as they claim to be.

“They are fools. They started as the United Opposition, but the unity disappeared. They then changed to the Alternative Government, but when they were asked for their alternative plan, they had nothing. All they know is to insult me,” he added.

Ruto told his opponents that he was no longer moved by them calling him a thief, or accusing him of killing Kenyans.

He hit out at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who questioned whether sometimes, Ruto dreamt that he was the Retired President Daniel Moi, or that he was ruling the country during the Second President’s time.

The Head of State told the Opposition to respect the Moi name. He teased that the Moi family assisted them in their fight against him through newspaper headlines.

He urged Kenyans to judge their leaders by their track record, the agenda they have for the country and the vision they have for Kenya’s future.
