Things would have been worse if Raila left us in opposition – Mbadi

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has sensationally claimed that the ODM party would not survive if the late Raila Odinga had left them in the Opposition.

Speaking in Nakuru County on Friday, September 11, CS Mbadi said that several factions within the ODM would have ditched the party for the government.

He added that being in government gives the party hope that it could rebuild and restrategise even after Raila’s death.

“If Raila had left us in the Opposition, ODM would be in a worse position. It would have disintegrated in a manner that has never been seen before because there would have been no hope in ODM.

“The people from the Coast would have said they are joining the government, so would have those from North Eastern. The fact that Raila left us in government is what is holding ODM together,” the CS stated.

Mbadi cautioned ODM leaders and members against attempts to lure them out of the broad-based government. He called for the Party and its supporters to take ownership of the government because some of its members held key positions.

The Treasury boss reckoned that the ODM CSs had contributed immensely to government delivery, and had shown how the country would have been under Raila’s leadership.

“Raila would have had people who would have steered this country to the next level, the same way that we are helping William Ruto.

“Nobody should tell you to leave the government. Even if we have issues here and there, we should resolve them when in government,” he stated.

Mbadi maintained that President Ruto’s administration had achieved a lot.

He maintained that some claims against the current regime were propaganda.

The CS slammed former Interior Boss Fred Matiang’i for demanding police reforms, yet he did not push for the same when he was in charge of the security docket during Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.

Meanwhile, the ODM Party announced a month-long commemoration of the former Prime Minister ahead of his first death anniversary.

Dubbed  ‘Mwezi wa Baba’, the party explained that the activities set out would be in recognition of his tireless contribution to our country’s democracy and his Pan-Africanism.
