Ask your husband to be a decent person - Gachagua to Mama Rachel Ruto

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Leader Rigathi Gachagua asked First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto to deliver a message to President William Ruto over his alleged disregard for the church.

Speaking in the USA on Sunday. September 14, Gachagua told Mama Rachel to stop persecuting Christians in the church.

He stated that political battles should not be held in churches, where Kenyans should ideally feel safe.

“We trust that she will talk to her husband to give an assurance to the people of Kenya that the church is where people run to when they are in trouble. To assure them that never again will they be attacked inside church,” he stated.

Gachagua stated that even during former President the late Daniel Moi’s controversial reign, he respected the sanctity of the church.

“Even during the Moi era, nobody was ever attacked in church. Even if police were after you and you ran into a church, they didn’t touch you. They would wait for you outside,” he added.

The former Deputy President asked the First Lady to ask her husband to assure Kenyans that there would not be a repeat of what happened in 2007, when victims of the post-election violence were torched in a church.

He further asked Mama Rachel to mount pressure on President Ruto to allow the police to prosecute the people involved in the Witima Church attack.

“The people are known. The file is ready, but William Ruto has refused to prosecute those people because he is the one who sent them,” Gachagua added.

The DCP Leader made the statement after Mama Rachel Ruto opened a newly constructed church in Kiambaa, Uasin Gishu County.

The new church, Christian Life Assembly, replaced the KAG Kiambaa Church, which was burnt during the 2007/2008 post-election violence.
