I built UDA, and I will be the one to bury it; Mohammed Ali
Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has vowed to help bring down the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the party he helped build ahead of the 2022 General Election.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Saturday, October 10, 2026, amid the ongoing United Opposition tour of the Coast region, the Mombasa gubernatorial hopeful recalled his role in popularising the ruling party, saying its initial promise of uplifting Kenyans had been betrayed.
“In 2022, we walked door-to-door, singing their anthem, in the hope of uplifting our people. We bought into their vision only to be dealt with deception!” Ali stated.
His remarks come at a time when the lawmaker is positioning himself to succeed Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir in the 2027 General Election after serving two terms as Nyali MP.
Ali has since aligned himself with the Wiper Patriotic Movement, which he is seeking to use as the vehicle for his gubernatorial ambitions. He was also appointed as the party’s deputy leader, pending ratification at the National Delegates Conference.

Kalonzo and other opposition leaders have been traversing the Coast and Lower Eastern regions, seeking to consolidate support for Wiper while urging residents to reject UDA and other broad-based political formations.
The Wiper party has also been courting the former gender cabinet secretary Aisha Jumwa to use the party’s ticket in her bid for the Kilifi gubernatorial seat and also be accorded for the Wiper deputy party leader role alongside Ali.
In Taita Taveta, Wiper Deputy Secretary-General and Wundayi Member of Parliament Danson Mwashako is also eyeing the gubernatorial seat as the party seeks to strengthen its presence across the Coast region ahead of the 2027 polls.
This also comes at a time when the race to unseat Mombasa Governor Abdulwahad Shariff Nassir is gaining momentum, with several candidates positioning themselves to challenge him in the 2027 General Election.
Among the contenders is East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member of parliament and businessman Suleiman Shahbal, who is also eyeing the seat after opting out of the race in 2022.
