I am still a member of ODM; Senator Sifuna
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has insisted that he remains a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), despite ruling out seeking re-election on the party’s ticket in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on K24 TV on Friday, October 9, 2026, Sifuna said he had not resigned from ODM but argued that the party no longer offered him a platform to pursue his political ambitions.
“I am still a member of ODM. I have not resigned. I am just saying I will not run on ODM in 2027,” Sifuna said.
He added that ODM was now in the hands of President William Ruto, a claim he used to explain his decision to seek a different political platform.
“I am explaining to the public that I will not run on ODM because ODM now is in the hands of William Ruto. Where is the problem with that?” he asked.

The senator also questioned why he was being pressed to resign from ODM when other politicians had changed their political allegiances without first giving up their elected positions.
“Yeah, they have done it before me, so ask William Ruto. When did William Ruto resign to join UDA?” he asked.
Sifuna argued that resigning from his Senate position to contest under another party would force taxpayers to finance another election just months before the 2027 General Election.
“If all of us decided to resign our positions and go back to the people for re-election, ten months to the general election, where do you think that will leave the country and the taxpayer? You would have a mini general election,” he said.
He further claimed that other politicians had already left their parties or declared support for rival political outfits ahead of the next election.
Sifuna questioned why he was being singled out over his political position, saying he had not heard similar questions being directed at other politicians.
