Activist Mulinge Muteti still unable to walk 23 days after abduction ordeal
Activist Mulinge Muteti has revealed that he is still unable to walk, 23 days after he was abducted, tortured for four days and abandoned in a forest along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 17, 2026, seeking solidarity and financial support, Muteti said he was still trying to establish the full extent of injuries inflicted on his neck and leg during the ordeal.
He said the injuries had left him unable to walk as he continued with his recovery.
“It is now 23 days since I was abducted, tortured for four days, and dumped in a forest along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway,” Muteti said.
The activist said his comrades were organising a solidarity event in his home village to visit him, offer encouragement and demonstrate support as he recovers.
The gathering is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, beginning at 10:00 am. It is expected to bring together fellow activists and members of the local community.
Muteti appealed to well-wishers to contribute towards preparations and the successful organisation of the event.

“We kindly request your support towards the preparation and successful organization of this event. Any contribution, regardless of the amount, will be highly appreciated,” he said.
He also thanked supporters for standing with him during his recovery, saying their kindness and solidarity had been important during the difficult period.
Muteti’s latest appeal follows an earlier reported disappearance and abduction that drew attention from human rights advocates.
He went missing after protests in Nairobi on September 21, 2026, before he was found in the Lukenya area of Machakos County on September 25.
The activist claimed that his captors tortured him and questioned him about his activism. Human rights advocates called for investigations into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and alleged mistreatment.
The allegations have raised concerns about the safety of activists and the need for accountability where abductions and torture are reported.
Muteti’s latest statement provides a fresh account of the continuing physical effects he says he is experiencing weeks after the incident.
