Affordable Housing will continue for the next 30 years - Ruto

President William Ruto declared on Saturday, October 17, that the construction of homes under the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) will continue for the next 30 years.

Ruto said this when addressing construction workers while inspecting the AHP in Nandi Hills.

He assured contractors working on the project that nobody would stop the Affordable Housing project amid claims by leaders in the Opposition, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, that they would stop the project if they unseat Ruto in 2027.

“Construction of houses is going on in every part of Kenya. Once you are done with this project, I have planned another. The construction of houses will continue for the next 30 years.

“Leave alone those idiots who think that they will stop Affordable Housing; they can’t. We will not stop until we make sure that every person in Kenya lives in a decent place, and that food security is not threatened by land fragmentation.

The President jokingly asked the contractors to include lifts in the projects to allow domesticated animals to easily access top floors of the multi-storey buildings.

“One thing you should not forget is to install lifts so that we can ferry chicken to the higher floors. Isn’t it? Don’t forget to put lifts,” he said.

Ruto commented in response to Sifuna’s claim that the Affordable Housing units were not practical for the people of Western Kenya, who love to rear animals such as chickens, which cannot climb to the 12th floor.

Earlier, the Head of State fired back at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna after he disclosed that he pays Ksh24,000 monthly towards the Housing Levy.

He told Sifuna that the salary he gets in the Senate is funded by taxpayers, including Kenyans whose children benefit from jobs created by the Affordable Housing Program.

“I heard another fellow the other day saying that he pays Ksh24,000 for housing from his salary, yet he is a senator. Now he has a plan to stop the Affordable Housing Programme simply because he pays Ksh24,000.”

” I want to tell him to use his brain and stop being foolish. The people paying your salary are these very Kenyans. One million children of these Kenyans are working in the housing programme,”  Ruto said.
