Kenya’s High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Peter Munyiri, has joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
In a statement issued by DCP Leader Riagthi Gachagua on Wednesday, October 21, he confirmed that Ambassador Munyiri, who paid him a courtesy call at Wamunyoro, would vie for Nyeri Governor in 2027.
He said that the Ambassador had decided to transfer his services from the Kenyan consulate in India to Nyeri County.
“Economist Peter Munyiri has served as Kenya’s Ambassador to India and has informed me of his decision to return home to serve the people of Nyeri County as its 5th Governor.
“He has aligned himself with the wishes of the people of Nyeri and will seek the position under the DCP Party,” Gachagua wrote.

The former Deputy President welcomed him to the party and assured him of free and fair nominations.
He also encouraged Munyiri to popularise himself on the ground in preparation for the party primaries to be held in late March next year.
Munyiri was the second guest hosted in Wamunyoro after Gachagua returned to Kenya following nearly two months on a tour in the United States of America.
On Mashujaa Day, the former DP hosted a delegation from the Linda Mwananchi Movement, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
Sifuna and Gachagua both confirmed that the discussion centred on fostering unity within the United Opposition ahead of the General Elections.
