Prof. Ndetei tells court ex-wife, son threatened to turn him into a chokora

Professor David Ndetei has told the High Court that his former wife, Rose Mbithe Mulwa, and their son, Chris Mulwa, threatened to reduce him to a chokora, citing the alleged threats as part of his opposition to their release on bail in the murder case involving his deceased wife.

Testifying before Justice Alexander Muteti at the Milimani High Court on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Ndetei said the threats had left him fearing for his life.

“I have fear of my life because of the history of the first accused (Rose Mbithe) and my son Chris Mulwa, who have been very vocal about the threats,” he told the court.

“They told me that they will reduce me to a chokora,” he added.

Ndetei was appearing for cross-examination on his affidavit opposing the release on bail of the first three accused persons in the murder case.

During questioning by lawyer Joel Mbaluka, who represents Mbithe and her son, the professor was asked whether he had reported the alleged threats to the police.

He said he went to Mlolongo Police Station but claimed that officers declined to record his statement.

The court session also turned to Ndetei’s relationship with his children, particularly his daughter, advocate Angela Mulwa, who is among those facing charges in the murder case.

Asked whether he would support Angela’s release on bail pending the hearing and determination of the case, Ndetei maintained his opposition to the release of his former wife and their two children.

He, however, praised Angela for her academic achievements, telling the court that she had emerged second nationally in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations during her time.

“I do oppose Angela being released on bail, though she is a good girl academically,” he said.

Ndetei clarified that his praise for his daughter was strictly about her academic performance and should not be interpreted as a change in his position on the bail application.

Despite his opposition to their release, the professor told the court that he was not harbouring bitterness against his children.

He said he had already publicly declared that he had forgiven them, maintaining that forgiveness did not mean he supported their release on bail.

The proceedings form part of the ongoing case in which Mbithe and her children are accused in connection with the death of Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
