Journalist Ciku Muiruri attacked after thugs invade family farm in Thika

Former Classic 105 host Ciku Muiruri was allegedly attacked by a group of armed thugs who invaded her family’s farm in Thika last week.

The incident, which she shared in a detailed statement via her social media platforms on Wednesday, October 21, showed her face with a black eye, which she says was from being struck with a crowbar on the head during the invasion.

“After walking out, this guy grabs a crowbar, and he hits me on the head. I’ve been hit in my eye; I’ve been hit on my skull,” Muiruri stated.

She claims the attackers, who were about100 in number, stormed the Thika property and broke down the door to the house she was in.

During the attack, she says she was forcefully made to hand over key personal electronics, including her laptop and phone, as well as some money, which was just the start of her ordeal in the hands of the armed men.

She was later hit on the skull and eye by one of the men after she returned with a police officer to look for her car keys in the midst of the commotion.

The journalist says she has recorded a statement and identified her attacker, but no arrests have been made since.

Muiruri claims the group is linked to a long-running land dispute involving a neighbouring property and a company laying claim to the land.

The farm, she notes, is where her father and grandmother are buried, and she maintains it belongs to her family.

She alleges the thugs are still occupying the farm, despite a court order granting a stay on any eviction orders obtained by the other party.

Muiruri further says the matter has been before a business tribunal court multiple times, with different magistrates issuing conflicting orders.

She has since filed a suit against the police, accusing them of failing to act on valid court orders and protect her rights.

Attacks and harassment against Kenyan journalists have escalated in 2026 ahead of the 2027 General Election, prompting condemnation from media organisations such as Kenya Editors Guild (KEG).
