Nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) representing the Jubilee Party in Taita Taveta County, Margaret Kawuki, has died
Nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) representing the Jubilee Party in Taita Taveta County, Margaret Kawuki, has died, prompting tributes from Kenyans.
Kawuki was serving her first term in the Taita Taveta County Assembly after being nominated on the Jubilee Party ticket in the 2022 General Election.
Preliminary reports indicate that Kawuki died in Mombasa County while undergoing treatment, although further details surrounding her death remain unclear.
Jubilee Party Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta confirmed her death on Thursday, October 29, calling her a dedicated public servant and champion of democracy, equality, and women’s rights.
Before joining the County Assembly, Kawuki served in other public institutions, including the Taita Taveta County Education Fund board and the tourism board.
In a statement, Kenta said Kawuki’s contribution to Taita Taveta County residents would not be forgotten, adding that the late MCA carried herself with conviction, dignity and compassion.
“Kawuki was more than a dedicated member of the Jubilee Party. She was a committed public servant, a champion of democracy, equality and the rights of women, and a courageous voice for those who often go unheard,” he stated.
“At a time such as this, words can hardly capture the pain of losing a colleague, a sister in service and a fellow patriot whose journey was cut tragically short,” he added.
