Kenya’s National Police Service Sets New Dates for Countrywide Recruitment of New Constables

The National Police Service (NPS) has officially announced that the long-awaited recruitment of police constables will take place on November 17, 2025, across all sub-counties in Kenya. This comes after a court lifted earlier orders that had temporarily halted the recruitment exercise, clearing the way for the NPS to fill new positions within the force.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed the new date, emphasizing that the recruitment will be conducted simultaneously in all designated centres across the country. The exercise aims to strengthen the police workforce and enhance national security operations through the inclusion of new, qualified officers.

Eligibility and Requirements

The NPS outlined several key qualifications that applicants must meet to be considered. Candidates must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years and possess a valid national identification card. They must also have attained at least a mean grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), including a minimum of D+ in either English or Kiswahili.

In addition, applicants must be physically and medically fit, with minimum height requirements set at 5 feet 8 inches for men and 5 feet 3 inches for women. Female candidates should not be pregnant during either the recruitment or training periods. Individuals with criminal records or pending court cases will automatically be disqualified.

The NPS has also encouraged National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the minimum qualifications to apply, noting that their previous service provides a strong foundation for police work.

Inspector General Kanja reiterated that the recruitment process will be conducted free of charge and under strict oversight to ensure fairness. The NPS cautioned the public against giving or receiving bribes in an attempt to influence the recruitment outcome, warning that anyone found engaging in corruption will face legal prosecution.

Application Procedure

Interested candidates are required to download and complete the official application forms available on the NPS, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and Administration Police (AP) websites. The forms will also be accessible at all Huduma Centres across the country for those without internet access.

On the recruitment day, applicants must report to their respective centres by 8:00 a.m., carrying both original and photocopies of the following documents:

• National Identity Card
• Academic certificates
• Birth certificate
• NYS discharge certificate (for NYS graduates)

The NYS discharge certificate must reflect at least a “GOOD” conduct rating for the applicant to qualify.
