Deaths reported as tourist helicopter crashes near Mt Ololokwe in Samburu

A helicopter has reportedly crashed near Kirish, close to Mt. Ololokwe in Samburu County, Kenya.

According to a preliminary report from the police, seven tourists were on board the chopper before it went down.

“Their nationality is yet to be known,” police said.

Locals and rescue teams are moving toward the site. Smoke and fire have been reported at the scene.

Details surrounding the crash remain unclear, including the number of people who were on board and whether there were any casualties.

The helicopter went down in a deep and difficult-to-access section of the mountain, according to witnesses at the scene, prompting an urgent rescue response.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed the crash, saying the incident was still under investigation as authorities worked to establish the circumstances surrounding it.

“Right there, there is a helicopter that has fallen. It is quite deep and far, but do send urgent help so that people can be rescued,” a witness said.

Smoke and fire were reported at the scene as locals and rescue teams responded to the crash and efforts to reach the site continued.

An Air Tropic rescue chopper was also reported to have arrived at the scene as rescuers worked to assess the situation and assist those affected.
