I will never marry again! - RMS and Hot 96 radio host Nick Odhiambo

Hot 96 radio host Nick Odhiambo has ignited a heated debate after making a bold declaration about marriage, finances and the price men pay for saying “I do.”

The 44-year-old broadcaster has sparked widespread reactions after declaring that he would never marry again, arguing that remaining unmarried offers him a level of peace he does not want to lose.

Nick made the candid remarks during an appearance on Alex Mwakideu’s AMTV Podcast, where he opened up about relationships, financial pressure and his views on modern marriage.

“I will never get married again, it’s too peaceful being unmarried,” he said.

He went on to share his controversial take on the financial dynamics of marriage, suggesting that women often gain financial stability through marriage while men face financial setbacks.

His remarks quickly stirred debate online, with Kenyans divided over whether he was speaking from personal experience or making an unfair generalisation about relationships.

Nick’s declaration has raised eyebrows, particularly because it comes after his colorful traditional wedding ceremony with longtime partner Annie Sumbeiywo on April 13, 2024.

The couple celebrated their union in a traditional Kalenjin ceremony known as koito, attended by hundreds of guests, including prominent lawyer and businessman Donald Kipkorir.

Nick and Annie captured attention with their matching custom-made red outfits, making the occasion a memorable celebration of love and tradition.

Following the ceremony, the radio presenter publicly expressed his affection for Annie, sharing her photo with the endearing caption: “My queen aka Mrs. Odhiambo… Aka baby girl.”

Against that backdrop, his recent comments have left many wondering what prompted such a firm stance on marriage.

However, neither Nick nor Annie has publicly clarified whether his remarks were humorous, a reflection of his personal experiences or a broader criticism of modern relationships.

A man whose personal life has seen painful chapters.

Beyond the headlines, Nick’s relationship history has included difficult moments and deeply personal losses.

His previous relationship with Jane Mwai, with whom he shares a daughter, ended in 2016 amid publicly reported assault allegations.

The presenter has also endured heartbreaking experiences as a father. In January 2019, he announced the loss of an unborn son. In June 2021, he suffered another devastating loss when his newborn son died just three days after birth.

These experiences form part of his public story, although it would be wrong to assume they are the reason behind his latest comments about marriage.

In the days following his 2024 traditional wedding, Nick also addressed a resurfaced screenshot of an old WhatsApp conversation, dismissing the claims surrounding it and arguing that the image was a decade old and had been cropped.
