KRA Customs records Ksh 92.53B, highest-ever monthly revenue collection n in July
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Customs and Border Control Department has recorded its highest-ever monthly revenue collection after collecting Ksh92.53 billion in July 2026, marking a strong start to the new financial year.
The July collection exceeded the Treasury target of Ksh86.16 billion by Ksh6.37 billion, translating to a performance rate of 107.39 percent.
The latest figures also represented a 15.3 percent increase compared to the Ksh80.29 billion collected by Customs in July 2025, according to the taxman.
The record performance came a month after Customs posted another historic collection of Ksh89.1 billion in June 2026, which was at the time the department’s highest monthly revenue collection.
A major contributor to the July performance was non-oil revenue, which reached Ksh61.50 billion, crossing the Ksh60 billion mark for the first time in KRA’s history.
KRA attributed the growth to continued efforts to improve compliance, strengthen cargo management and increase the use of technology in customs administration.
The taxman said it has also intensified measures to facilitate legitimate trade while strengthening controls against illicit trade, revenue leakage and other forms of non-compliance at Kenya’s borders and the Port of Mombasa.
KRA Customs and Border Control Commissioner Lilian Nyawanda said the July collection reflected the impact of investments in technology, compliance and trade facilitation.

“The record collection in July is a significant milestone for KRA and a strong start to the new financial year. It demonstrates that our investments in technology, compliance, trade facilitation and stakeholder collaboration are delivering results,” Nyawanda said.
She added that the authority would continue focusing on making it easier for compliant businesses to trade while ensuring that all revenue due to the government is collected.
The record collection comes as KRA and the Kenya Ports Authority pursue measures to speed up cargo clearance at the Port of Mombasa, including the rollout of a new digital cargo system, a Smart Gate pilot and plans for round-the-clock operations at Container Freight Stations.
One of the reforms is the Advanced Cargo Declaration system, which was rolled out on August 3 to allow traders to submit and verify cargo documents before goods are loaded at the port of export.
KRA said the platform had received more than 1,000 applications, while the planned Smart Gate system is expected to automate cargo movement and reduce delays at port exit points.
