Police are investigating an incident in which a 20-year-old university student died after he was allegedly stabbed by a fellow student in Murang’a town following an event at the university.

Kelvin Murimi, a second-year student at Murang’a University of Technology, was allegedly attacked at about 5 am on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in the VM area while heading home from an event held at the university.

According to police, Murimi indicated before his death that he had been stabbed by a coursemate.

Police officers from Murang’a Police Station and DCI detectives later visited Murang’a Level Five Hospital, where they established that the student had succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the deceased had sustained a deep stab wound to the left side of his abdomen and showed signs of severe blood loss.

Investigators established that Murimi was pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.

Scene-of-crime officers processed and documented the case as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing commenced.

Murimi’s body was preserved at the Murang’a Level Five Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere, police in Nairobi arrested a 28-year-old man after his father died following a confrontation at their home in Mowlem, Nairobi East.

The deceased, identified as 66-year-old James Hunja Macharia, had earlier been reported by his brother, as having died under circumstances suspected to involve assault.

According to police, officers visited the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary and established that the deceased had sustained several head injuries, which may have contributed to his death.

Investigations at the family home established that Hunja had a confrontation with his son on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Police said the son allegedly pushed his father during the confrontation, causing him to fall and sustain a head injury.

He reportedly told investigators that his father regained consciousness after the incident but later complained of a headache. He was subsequently taken to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The son was arrested and placed in police custody pending further investigations and his arraignment, police said on Monday.
