NYOTA increases stipend for beneficiaries in hardship areas
The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project has increased the daily stipend for beneficiaries in 14 counties as training of a new cohort commences.
In a statement, Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs announced that beneficiaries from hardship counties will receive a daily stipend of Ksh500, up from Ksh300, for the duration of the programme.
He explained that the adjustment is aimed at promoting equal access to the programme by helping participants from vulnerable areas cover transport and other expenses as they attend the 20-day Socio-Emotional Skills Development (SESD) training under the project’s On-the-Job Experience (OJE) component.
“To promote equity and support beneficiaries from areas facing unique socio-economic and geographical challenges, participants from hardship counties will receive a daily stipend of Ksh500, compared to Ksh300 in other counties, helping ease the cost of attending the training,” Jacobs wrote.
The enhanced allowance will be paid to beneficiaries from Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Laikipia, Tana River, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit, Samburu, Kilifi, Lamu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Isiolo.
Participants in all other counties will continue receiving the standard daily stipend of Ksh300.
Mothers participating in the programme will continue receiving an additional Ksh250 per day to cater for childcare expenses during the training period.

The induction exercise officially commenced on Monday across Lots 5, 6 and 7, covering 18 counties, which also include Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia and Mombasa.
The PS said that during the training, participants will be equipped with workplace skills, including teamwork, leadership, emotional intelligence and problem-solving.
Those who successfully complete the programme will proceed to a five-month apprenticeship under experienced artisans to gain professional experience.
“Over the next 20 days, beneficiaries will strengthen essential socio-emotional competencies, including communication, teamwork, resilience, leadership, emotional intelligence, problem-solving and workplace professionalism. Upon successful completion, they will proceed to a five-month apprenticeship under experienced master craftsmen, where they will gain practical, hands-on industry experience,” Jacobs added.
According to the PS, the training reported above-average attendance in several counties, though mobilisation efforts are expected to continue in areas that recorded lower turnout to ensure eligible beneficiaries are not left out.
