Power blackout disrupts Ruto interview at Kisumu State Lodge
President William Ruto had to pause a live television interview on Monday after a power outage disrupted his media engagement at Kisumu State Lodge.
The interruption prompted Ruto to turn to his aides and question why the facility had not been switched to a generator.
He then told journalists not to feel sorry for him over the disruption, saying he should take responsibility for ensuring the State Lodge was adequately prepared.
“Why don’t you put this place on a generator so that we stop? Why don’t you switch the lights to the generator?” Ruto asked.
“It is not you to be sorry; it is me because I am the owner of this place. I should be much more organised.”
The power interruption came as Ruto was responding to questions during the media engagement, where he discussed his administration’s affordable housing programme and other national issues.
The power disruption happened several times during Ruto’s interview, with the live broadcast going off, forcing him to pause and continue.
The President is currently in Kisumu during his four-day tour in the Nyanza region.

Earlier,Ruto opened the Kisumu West Sub-County Police Headquarters in Kisumu County as the government steps up efforts to strengthen security and maintain peace and stability.
Speaking during the launch, Ruto said the government would not give room to individuals seeking to cause chaos, violence or instability in the country.
“Those bent on causing chaos, violence or instability in our country will have no space,” Ruto said, adding that the government’s focus was on peace, stability and unity.
He said the government was also committed to ending tribalism, growing the economy and lifting Kenyans out of poverty.
The President also launched the construction of the 12-kilometre Rabuor-Chiga Road in Nyando Constituency at a cost of Sh962 million.
The road will provide an alternative link between Kondele and the Kisumu-Ahero Road at Rabuor Market, improving connectivity for residents and motorists in the area.
Ruto said Kisumu County would not be left behind in the government’s infrastructure transformation plan, noting that Sh23 billion had been allocated for the construction of eight new roads covering 270 kilometres.
He said the projects would expand the county’s road network, improve connectivity and unlock its economic potential.
