Linda Mwananchi in Meru took its political mobilisation drive to Meru on Sunday, August 30, 2026, where its leaders, including Edwin Sifuna, delivered a strongly worded message on the state of the country and President William Ruto’s leadership.
Speaking during the Linda Mwananchi in Meru tour, Sifuna criticised the government while challenging it to listen to the concerns of ordinary Kenyans.
Sifuna said the Constitution envisages the office of the President as a symbol of national unity. However, he argued that the current situation in the country had turned that symbol into a source of embarrassment for citizens.
“The Constitution says the office of the President is a symbol of national unity, but Ruto is a symbol of our collective embarrassment and shame as Kenyans,” Sifuna said.
The remarks formed part of his wider address to residents during the Linda Mwananchi in Meru tour, which is seeking to strengthen the movement’s grassroots presence and engage Kenyans on issues affecting them.
Sifuna also directly addressed Kasongo, claiming that he may be operating under the impression that Kenyans are afraid of him.

“Unajua Kasongo anafikiria kuna watu wanamuogopa,” Sifuna said.
He further challenged Kasongo over the political plan that was presented to Kenyans in 2022, arguing that it had contributed to the difficulties being experienced by citizens.
“Hiyo plan yako ya 2022 ndio imetuingiza kwenye shimo kama Wakenya,” Sifuna said.
At the same time, Sifuna urged Kasongo not to become angry with Kenyans, instead calling for patience and a better understanding of what citizens want.
“Kasongo usijam, twende tu polepole mpaka uelewe kwamba Wakenya wanataka kuishi maisha ya huru,” he said.
The Linda Mwananchi in Meru tour comes as Sifuna continues to lead the political movement in its grassroots engagements across the country.
The Meru visit is part of the movement’s efforts to interact directly with residents and discuss governance, leadership and the issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.
The Linda Mwananchi in Meru programme is expected to generate further political debate as the movement continues its nationwide mobilisation activities.
