Ruto promises to review stipend of over 100,000 Community Health Providers
President William Ruto has directed that over 107,000 Community Health Providers (CHPs) be incorporated into the Social Health Authority (SHA) plan by Monday, with their stipend plan to be reviewed by December.
While speaking at the Community Health Promoters Event at the Health Summit in KICC, Nairobi, on August 18, the President asked CS Duale to come to the platform and announce the major changes directly to the CHP workers in attendance.
In this regard, Duale announced that the changes would take place from Thursday, August 20, to August 21, and that CHP workers will be incorporated into the Digital Health Agency (DHA) system, as the Ministry of Health has already verified their details.
“All the CHP workers have been included in the Digital Health Agency, and so their inclusion into SHA will start by this Thursday to Friday,” CS Duale stated.
As of Monday, August 24, they will all be included in the system. To confirm this transition, they will receive a text message from the ministry, as stated by CS Duale.
“By Monday, you will all start receiving a text message from the Ministry of Health on your phones because we already have your data,” added CS Duale.

According to Duale, these workers, who are usually in the first line of defence in emergency situations on the ground, will now be able to receive treatment from all levels of health services, from Level 1 Health facilities, all the way to Level 6 facilities.
Since these workers have not yet been included in a payroll system, President William Ruto announced that the national government will pay half of the funds for them, while the remaining 50 percent will be paid by their respective county governments.
Additionally, President Ruto directed that the SHIF plan also cover beneficiaries’ family members to ensure a more holistic healthcare experience.
“This plan will not only include you alone as an individual, it will also include your kins, or the entire family,” President Ruto stated.
The event also came with several benefits, as President Ruto announced plans to improve the healthcare equipment used by CHPs.
He said all 107,000 workers would receive advanced smartphones within three months to facilitate faster transmission of healthcare data, alongside improved medical kits.
