Schools put on alert over KNEC notice on SBA projects and assessments
KNEC) has flagged a notice circulating on social media concerning School-Based Assessment (SBA) projects and assessments as fake
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has flagged a notice circulating on social media concerning School-Based Assessment (SBA) projects and assessments as fake.
The fake notice claimed that schools should stop administering termly set parallel examinations as replacements for SBA projects and assessments.
It further alleged that feedback communicated to parents and guardians after every termly assessment must be the same information uploaded to the assessment portal by October 31, 2026.
The notice claimed the directive was intended to ensure consistency and credibility in reporting assessment feedback to stakeholders.
However, KNEC has dismissed the notice as fake, meaning schools should not treat the purported instructions as an official directive from the examinations body.
This comes weeks after KNEC distanced itself from a post claiming the council was recruiting 230,000 professionals for the national exams in 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 28, KNEC flagged the poster as fake news and warned academic professionals to be on high alert.

It maintained that it did not send out the poster advertising the recruitment of contracted professionals for the 2026 KPSEA, KJSEA and KCSE examinations.
“Stay alert. Beware of fake news, misleading information and fraudulent advertisements. Do not fall prey to fraudsters,” KNEC said in a statement.
Earlier, the exam council announced it had opened applications for item-writing training for teachers at senior schools and the vocational level.
KNEC explained that the training will focus on developing quality test items for Competency-Based Assessment.
It added that participants who complete the training will be certified and may be engaged by the Council in assessment-related activities when the need arises.
“The training is scheduled to take place from October 12 to 13. It will equip participants with skills and knowledge in developing quality assessment items aligned with the relevant curriculum and assessment requirements,” the Council advertised.
