TSC directs teachers to register on pension portal before July 12 deadline

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has directed all teachers enrolled in the Public Service Superannuation Fund (PSSF) to register on the Member Self-Service Portal by July 12 as part of the transition to a fully digital pension management system. 

In a circular dated July 9, the commission instructed regional, county and sub-county directors to ensure the directive reaches all teachers under their jurisdiction. 

“All teachers who are members of the PSSF are required to register on the PSSF Member Self-Service Portal. The registration exercise should be undertaken on or before 12th July 2026 to facilitate the Fund’s transition to a fully digital operating environment,” the circular stated.

According to the commission, teachers account for about 334,442 of the fund’s members, making up the majority. 

However, only about 20,000 teachers enrolled in the scheme have updated their details on the portal.

TSC warned that failure to register prevents teachers from monitoring their retirement savings and can delay the processing of pension benefits when they leave service. 

Members can register on the portal through the fund’s website or the PSSF Pension App available on Google Play.

The commission said the portal allows members to update their personal and contact details, access pension statements and contribution histories, monitor pension records, and submit pension-related requests online. 

Teachers will also receive notifications from the fund through the platform, reducing reliance on manual and paper-based processes. 

In addition to registering on the portal, members have been instructed to nominate their beneficiaries by completing the PSSF 2 Beneficiary Nomination Forms, which are available on the fund’s website. 

Teachers experiencing difficulties during registration can seek assistance from the official contact person listed in the circular.

The required registration is part of reforms introduced under the Public Service Superannuation Scheme Act, which shifted public servants, including teachers, from a non-contributory pension scheme to a defined contribution system.

Under the scheme, both employers and employees make regular pension contributions that are invested to build retirement savings.
