United States warns Americans worldwide of possible attacks on U.S. interests overseas
The United States has issued a fresh security alert warning Americans worldwide of possible attacks on U.S. interests overseas as tensions linked to the Middle East conflict continue to escalate.
In the advisory, the U.S. Department of State said Americans should exercise increased caution, warning that Iran and groups supportive of Iran could target U.S. interests outside the Middle East.
The warning also covers U.S. businesses and other American institutions worldwide.
“U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions,” the State Department stated.
The advisory has implications for countries such as Kenya, which hosts key U.S. diplomatic and security interests, although the State Department did not identify Kenya as a specific target.
Meanwhile, the State Department also warned Americans in the Middle East to prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions as the security situation remains volatile.
Americans outside the Middle East were urged to reconsider travel to and through the region.

Additionally, the U.S. urged its citizens to closely monitor information from airlines and airports for changes affecting their journeys.
The advisory comes as the United States cites escalating hostilities involving Iran and Iran-supported groups, including attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, warning that the conflict could escalate rapidly.
A day earlier, Kenya condemned missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and called for an immediate end to the hostilities.
In a statement issued on Friday, September 18, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs said the attacks targeting civilians, infrastructure and sacred sites violated international humanitarian law and threatened regional stability.
Kenya also warned that threats to maritime trade through the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz could have wider implications for global trade, economic stability and energy security, calling for the protection of commercial shipping and an end to attacks on merchant vessels.
