Wiper appoints Mohamed Ali as deputy party leader, Jamleck Kamau as party chairman
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has appointed Jamleck Kamau as the party chairman, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali as deputy party leader and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru as the party’s spokesperson.
The appointments, announced on Friday, August 7, are part of leadership changes as the party moves to strengthen its ranks and position itself ahead of the 2027 General Election.
While addressing the press in Nairobi, Kalonzo named Jamleck Kamau, a former Cabinet minister for Nairobi Metropolitan and a former MP, as the party chairman, citing his decades of political experience.
According to the Wiper leader, Kamau’s experience in building political coalitions and managing complex political formations made him the right person to steer the party’s affairs.
“Jamleck has spent 30 years building coalitions, balancing budgets and holding political formations together under pressure. That is precisely the discipline Wiper needs,” Kalonzo said.
At the same time, Kalonzo also appointed Nyali MP Mohamed Ali as the party’s deputy leader, praising his record as an investigative journalist and legislator.
He noted that before joining Parliament, Ali earned national recognition as the Chief Investigations Editor of Jicho Pevu, where he exposed high-profile corruption cases and did undercover investigations.

“Mohamed Ali becomes our deputy party leader. Long before he sat in Parliament, he was the Chief Investigations Editor of Jicho Pevu. That instinct to expose rather than conceal has not left him to this day,” Kalonzo stated.
Kalonzo further revealed that the party had created the new position of spokesperson, appointing constitutional lawyer Ndegwa Njiru to the role.
He described Njiru as a seasoned legal practitioner who has dedicated his career to defending constitutionalism and justice.
Kalonzo also criticised IEBC Chairperson Erustus Ethekon over remarks suggesting the commission could be unable to conduct the 2027 General Election under the current political environment, insisting that the Constitution does not allow the polls to be postponed.
“IEBC Chairperson Erustus Ethekon has told Kenyans that the commission cannot hold elections in the current environment. I ask Ethekon, what does the law say? The Constitution fixed the date of the 2027 General Election,” Kalonzo noted.
“Nowhere does the law give the chairperson the right to threaten the entire nation with a postponement. If he cannot enforce the law as it is written, he should step aside for someone else,” he added.
