This was through a statement on August 27 from the Deputy Party Leader, Fred Matiang’i, who addressed the nation on August 26, insisting the recent exits do not signal a collapse of the party’s structures or influence.
He explained that the individuals who left had actually been suspended months earlier for misconduct, mismanagement, and interference with party processes, long before their public departure.
“Yesterday’s developments in Nairobi, including the announcement by some individuals of their departure from Jubilee Party, should be understood in their proper political context,” Matiang’i stated.
Adding, “These individuals were suspended by the Party several months ago following serious concerns regarding misconduct, mismanagement of party affairs and persistent interference with established party structures and processes.”
Matiang’i further revealed that some of those suspended had also been accused of soliciting money from aspirants, a conduct he described as completely against Jubilee’s values.
According to him, the disciplinary action taken against them was never about political revenge but about protecting the party’s integrity and its members.
Matiang’i maintained that a Jubilee ticket was never meant to serve individual ambition alone, since it carries the weight of an entire political movement behind it.

The drama began on Tuesday, August 25, when Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan quit Jubilee and was welcomed into Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which included close to a dozen party chairpersons across all Nairobi constituencies.
Gachagua used the moment to announce what he called a DCP takeover of Nairobi politics, promising to field candidates in all 17 constituencies ahead of 2027.
Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje and several other grassroots politicians also joined the wave, while Jubilee insists it remains focused on rebuilding Nairobi from the ward level up.
That notwithstanding, he argued that what many are calling a sudden defection is really just those leaders formalising political positions they had held for a while.
“What has been presented by some as a sudden ‘defection’ is, in many cases, simply the formalisation of political positions that have been evident for some time,” Matiang’i added.
