Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is set to be given a hall of fame award at this year’s Nairobi International Book Fair.
Organisers say Raila will be awarded for his great contribution in writing and his work in the publishing industry.
Lilian Nyariki, who has been promoting the culture of reading across the country will also be rewarded alongside veteran author turned Publisher Malkiat Singh.
Three outstanding books have also been shortlisted for the 2026 Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature in the English Adult Category.
The books include Nandi Bear by Abenea Ndago, published by Nsemia Inc. Publishers, Clan of Warriors by Ken N Kamoche, published by East African Educational Publishers and Old Money by Charles Chanchori, published by Oxford University Press East Africa.
The winner and runners-up will be announced during the official closing ceremony and a cash reward of Sh150,000 will be given to the winner.

“Following careful consideration, the panel of judges, the KPA Council and the awards subcommittee concluded that the number of entries received in these categories was too low to support a sufficiently competitive fair and meaningful adjudication process,” Agatha Karani, MD Bookmark Africa said.
The Nairobi International Book Fair set to take place at the Sarit Centre from Wednesday this week to Sunday.
Under the theme Read, Think, Lead, the expo is set to draw exhibitors from China, Turkiye, Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Chairperson of the book fair, Mary Maina, says they are targeting to attract at least 60,000, including children and young readers.
Last year, the book fair attracted 36,247 visitors.
“This year’s fair will therefore look beyond traditional exhibition of books… It will be an opportunity to meet authors, discover new stories, participate in reading activities and meet the people behind the books they read – writers, illustrators, editors, publishers and booksellers,” Mary Maina, managing director of Moran Publishers and chairperson of the book fair said.
