Ndindi Nyoro confronts MP Kwenya Thuku at a church over threatening message

Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro on Sunday, September 20, 2026, confronted MP Kwenya Thuku during a church service at St. Paul’s Engineer ACK Church in Kinangop Constituency, Nyandarua County.

During the service, the Kiharu lawmaker Ndindi Nyoro addressed a message he said had been sent to him before the service.

Nyoro said he had expected politicians to give one another room to worship despite their political differences, adding that he had never attended a church service in Kiharu where political opponents were present.

“When I came, I was thinking mheshimiwa… And let me say this, Christians: when we come to church as different political actors, we speak words that hurt each other,” Nyoro said.

He said he believed Thuku could also have his own Sunday programme and tour Kiharu if he wished.

“I was thinking that when I come here, and because there are so many Sundays in this year, Mheshimiwa also can have his Sunday; even if he wants to tour Kiharu, he can.

“I have never attended a church service, even in Kiharu, where opponents are there,” Nyoro said.

Nyoro then turned to Thuku and referred to a message he said had been sent to him before he travelled to the church.

“Mheshimiwa, just calm. If you want to read the message, read. Let us speak the truth,” Nyoro said while holding up his smartphone.

“You know the message is here. Mheshimiwa, if you want to read, just read it so that Christians be the judge,” he added.

Nyoro went on to tell the congregation what he said was contained in the message.

“Mheshimiwa, you sent me a threatening message; you told me that when I step foot here, we will see each other,” he said.

Nyoro also said he had spoken to the church leader before attending the service.

“Before I came to this church, I had spoken to the church leader, and I was sure,” he said.

The exchange created a tense moment during the service. At one point, a member of the clergy in uniform was seen leaving his seat, walking past Nyoro towards where Thuku was seated, looking at Thuku’s phone before returning to sit down.
