Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed the Linda Mwananchi movement, describing it as a “passing cloud” while questioning its policy agenda.
Speaking in Baringo County, Murkomen said he sympathised with supporters of the movement, arguing that some had been led to believe it could produce the next President.
He questioned the movement’s policy platform, saying its leaders had failed to clearly articulate their agenda.
“I feel pity for Linda Mwananchi, I pity them because I know most of them, they were my agemates and we went to school together. They are people who had planned for the future. But someone cheated them that they would be President,” Murkomen said.
“They do not have an agenda or policy; they are saying that they don’t want shiny things. When you ask them their policy and agenda, they are saying it is the constitution, how can the constitution be a policy?”
Murkomen dismissed the movement’s political momentum, saying it had emerged and declined rapidly.
“You can see for yourself that the Linda Mwananchi was unfortunately a passing cloud and it has passed faster so much faster than the previous ones,” he said.
Murkomen spoke at an interdenominational church service at AIC Visha Oshwal Comprehensive School grounds in Kabarnet, Baringo County.
His remarks come amid renewed attention on Linda Mwananchi, with leaders associated with the movement publicly dismissing reports of divisions among its ranks.
Earlier, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi said its leaders remained united despite reports of disagreements.
Osotsi claimed the government is attempting to create divisions within the movement, saying the alleged strategy would not succeed.

He said leaders associated with Linda Mwananchi were speaking with one voice despite reports of disagreements between different factions and their supporters.
“All these leaders are speaking with one voice; Governor James Orengo, MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna,” Osotsi said.
“We are one. The only problem is the government, which is creating problems within Linda Mwananchi.”
This comes amid growing attention to the relationship between Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, whose supporters have in recent days traded barbs.
Sifuna has emerged as one of the most prominent figures in Linda Mwananchi and has been stepping up his national mobilisation activities.
Babu, who commands a strong political base in Nairobi, has also positioned himself as a key player in efforts to build a wider opposition alliance.
The emerging differences have raised questions over whether competing political ambitions could complicate efforts to establish a united opposition platform.
DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has also intervened in the matter, urging Sifuna and Babu to close ranks and prevent their differences from splitting the movement.
