Uproar in Kirinyaga after women receive underwear branded with Senator’s name

Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango has come under fire after several underwear items imprinted with his name were distributed to women in the county.

Speaking on Thursday, September 24, area residents slammed the Senator for imprinting his name on personal clothing and using it to campaign for his 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Area residents advised the Murango to consider more appropriate ways to campaign that do not infringe on the dignity of the electorate. They argued that he would have gifted the women more beneficial items like shoes of food stuff.

They further accused him of overstepping into the Kirinyaga County Woman Representative Njeri Maina’s responsibility by using the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) to purchase the ‘gifts’.

“The Senator’s main responsibility is oversight. He should stick to that instead of being involved in NGAAF projects, which are for the Woman Rep,” the aggravated locals stated.

For her part, Maina praised the people of Kutus for rejecting the underwhelming and inappropriate gifts. She urged locals to share photos of individuals distributing the NGAAF merchandise.

She insinuated that Senator Murango was not behind the controversial ‘gifts’, adding that those responsible were trying to soil his reputation among the locals.

“Please send hard evidence. A video of the people distributing, capturing their faces and handing the merchandise around, with NGAAF branding visible. 

“A reward of Kshs50,000 is on me. Any politician who thinks our people are gullible has seen them at night,” the Woman Rep. said.

The incident came just days after a section of Kenyans went after former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga over donning school uniforms during her sanitary pads distribution drive across schools in Nairobi County.

Some Kenyans online claimed that Omanga’s actions, including dancing with some of the students on camera, crossed the boundary of self-infantilization.

They opined that dressing as a student blurs the professional line expected of leaders, leaving audiences confused about the underlying intent.
