Natembeya reveals Sifuna’s party ahead of October launch

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Thursday, June 25, claimed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna will run for president under the United Democratic Party (UDP).

Speaking during a radio interview, Natembeya said the UDP party will not only represent the Western Region but also be a national party.

He said that Sifuna will sit at the United Opposition’s negotiating table as the UDP Party Leader and Presidential Aspirant.

“The United Democratic Party (UDP) is Sifuna’s party, and we will use it. If Sifuna runs for the presidency under UDP or the coalition that will be formed by the opposition, just like Raila vied under Azimio and not ODM,” the Governor stated.

Natembeya maintained that Sifuna was the United Opposition’s best bet to run against President William Ruto in the upcoming General Election. He added that he would not be okay if Sifuna were made to settle for the running mate position.

“No. We are not okay with Sifuna being the Deputy President because we don’t want a ticket that will chase away our supporters.

“We need to listen to what Kenyans want and consider the repercussions of whom we will pick for flagbearer and running mate,” he stated.

The Trans Nzoia County Chief stated that while all leaders in the United Opposition would easily floor Ruto on the ballot, there are some that would guarantee an early victory.

“I haven’t heard Kenyans anywhere saying ‘Sisi ni Matiang’i’, ‘ Sisi ni Kalonzo’ or ‘Sisi ni Natembeya’. I don’t know how it will be in future, but for now, Kenyans want Sifuna to be their president,” he explained.

Nonetheless, he maintained that the Opposition would use several methods to settle on its presidential candidate, including scientific methods such as opinion polls.

Natembeya maintained that the leaders should be selfless for the country to witness another 2002 NARC moment in 2027.

He added that Ruto was intimidated by the Opposition, and he was allegedly using the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties to fight the Opposition amid the recent frustration of Linda Mwananchi’s registration.

He maintained that  Azimio’s rebranding to The Ukombozi Alliance (TUA), the registration of The Mwananchi Party and the Liberty National Democratic Alliance (LINDA) Party were not a stumbling block to Linda Mwananchi’s registration.
