Three people dead after a car crashes into bystander along Ngong Road

Three people have died and others injured after a car crashed before being set ablaze at Kenol Stage near Raila Odinga International Stadium along Ngong Road in Nairobi on the morning of Thursday, October 29.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred at around 7:25 am when a dark blue saloon car reportedly lost control while travelling at high speed from the Ngong side.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle hit the pavement before veering off the road and knocking a woman who was waiting for a matatu to town before it was burnt down by angry boda boda riders.

The woman reportedly died on the spot alongside two others who sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Eyewitnesses alleged that police recovered two bottles of alcohol from the wreckage, raising suspicions that the driver could have been under the influence of alcohol.

Witnesses who spoke noted that in the aftermath of the accident, boda boda riders reportedly set the wreckage on fire, claiming they wanted to chase away bad omens associated with the fatal crash.

Mombasa-bound bus full of passengers bursts into flames

Images widely shared online showed the car extensively damaged and engulfed in flames as rescuers and members of the public rushed to the scene to help in rescue efforts.

The latest crash has renewed concerns over rising road accidents across the country despite intensified crackdowns on reckless drivers and unroadworthy vehicles by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) along major roads and highways.

The accident comes just four days after a head-on collision between a bus and a lorry killed at least 22 people along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

The victims were members of Power of the Word Church International and the Mombasa Pastors Fellowship who were returning from Lugari, Kakamega County, where they had attended their bishop’s burial.

Official data from NTSA revealed that the country recorded 3,995 deaths from road accidents in Kenya between January 1 and October 4, 2026, averaging 14 people daily.
