Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has urged his supporters to drop the Equitable Party banner and embrace Linda Mwananchi following approval of the party’s rebranding by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).

Speaking to aspirants in Webuye, Bungoma County, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, the former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary general said the rebranding process had been completed and approved by the relevant authorities.

“Sisi hio mambo ya TEP imeisha kuanzia leo tunajiita Linda Mwananchi, we are through with the rebranding process.”

Sifuna called on his supporters to rally behind the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM), which began as a rebel group within ODM, and urged aspirants to align themselves with the new political outfit.

He commended those who attended the meeting wearing Linda Mwananchi-branded attire, saying the movement’s supporters should fully embrace the new identity.

The rebranding follows weeks of disagreements between Sifuna’s camp and the ORPP over the reservation of the Linda Mwananchi name.

The movement initially faced resistance after the registrar indicated that another person had sought to reserve the name before Sifuna’s team submitted its request.

The dispute was subsequently referred to the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, which ruled in favour of Sifuna’s camp and directed the registrar to allow the reservation of the Linda Mwananchi name.

In the meantime, Sifuna had unveiled the Equitable Party as his political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election before the latest rebranding to the Linda Mwananchi banner received the registrar’s approval.

The movement is now expected to unveil its officials as it begins preparations for the 2027 polls.

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi had earlier indicated that the proposed party would adopt a centre-left political ideology, with human rights, economic liberation and constitutionalism among its key pillars.

The movement is seeking to use the platform to appeal to Kenyans as opposition leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is among the opposition figures who have congratulated Sifuna on unveiling his political vehicle.

Gachagua has urged Kenyans who support Sifuna to join the party and seek elective positions, saying opposition parties should work towards securing a majority in Parliament in the next administration if they succeed in unseating President Ruto.
