DCI investigates prado linked to dispute involving slain Dr Mutiso’s husband

Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of psychologist and researcher Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso are pursuing a new lead involving a Toyota Prado believed to have been used to block the taxi she was boarding moments before she was gunned down in Nairobi’s Upper Hill.

According to investigators, the Prado allegedly intercepted the taxi before gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire, shooting Dr Mutiso three times in what police believe was a carefully planned attack.

The vehicle has since become a key focus of the investigation after detectives linked it to a Toyota Prado reportedly stolen during an earlier demolition of Dr Mutiso’s property in Mlolongo, Machakos County, in February this year.

Police say officers had gone to the property on February 12 to enforce a court-issued demolition order involving the approximately 20-acre parcel of land where Dr Mutiso’s premises were located.

During the operation, property was destroyed, and several vehicles were reportedly stolen, including the Toyota Prado that investigators are now examining in connection with the doctor’s killing.

Investigators have also established that one of the murder suspects allegedly presented the same demolition notice at Mlolongo Police Station for enforcement, where Dr Mutiso later lodged a complaint seeking investigations into the legality of the demolition.

The complaint remains under investigation, with detectives now examining whether the land dispute and subsequent events could be linked to her murder.

According to Citizen TV, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) believe Dr Mutiso’s troubles escalated after she formally reported the demolition-related case to police, prompting investigators to explore whether she was targeted because of the dispute.

The probe has also established that on July 7, Dr Mutiso reported being accosted by three men riding on a motorcycle who allegedly threatened her life.

She reported the incident at Kilimani Police Station.

Three weeks later, on July 29, she was shot dead while heading to work in Upper Hill, with investigators now examining whether the earlier threats and the fatal shooting were carried out by the same group.

The latest developments come after Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor confirmed that Dr Mutiso died from severe bleeding after sustaining three gunshot wounds, two to the head and one through the upper back, causing fatal chest and head injuries.

The murder investigation remains active, with detectives also pursuing other leads after two suspects, a mother and her son, were arraigned in court as investigators sought more time to complete investigations into the killing.
