A female prison warder has been found dead at her residence in Bomet County, with police launching investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Sotik Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Choge confirmed the death, saying officers were examining the scene and collecting exhibits as part of the ongoing probe.
The police commander said preliminary findings pointed to a suspected love triangle while claims of suicide are being investigated.
“We got a report that we have lost one of our officers who worked under the Kenya Prisons Service in Sotik. We are examining the scene of the crime and have taken exhibits. Right now we cannot discuss all the details; we will explain the findings after investigations are complete. At this point, it is a suspected love triangle suicide,” Choge stated on Friday, July 24.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the death had not yet been fully established as investigations continued, adding that more details would be released once the probe was complete.
Additionally, authorities did not disclose information on any other individuals linked to the incident.
The deceased officer, who worked at the Kenya Prisons Service facility in Sotik town, was discovered at her home before authorities were notified.
The officer’s body was moved from the scene and taken for a postmortem examination to help determine the cause of death.

Residents in Sotik gathered to observe the scene and are awaiting more information on the incident from investigators.
The officer’s death adds to a series of cases where authorities have had to investigate deaths involving public service personnel.
On July 20, a 56-year-old Kirinyaga Administration Police officer was involved in an alleged murder-suicide, with reports indicating that he shot his partner and himself in their shared home.
Last month, police launched murder investigations after an autopsy ruled out earlier claims that a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer found dead inside Nakuru National Park had died by suicide.
The officer, Corporal Leonard Ochieng Odero, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in his house on June 23, with a post-mortem examination confirming the case required further investigation.
